Colour

 

Greyish green, olive-green, grey-brown or gunmetal grey (especially in humid coastal regions), but seldom black. The underside is pale grey or grey-green. The inside of the mouth is blackish.

Appearance

 

Grey-brown to blackish forms of the Egyptian cobra, particularly Anchieta's cobra, but the latter spreads a typically cobralike hood when threatened (larger than the mamba's hood), and has a dark brown and black band across its throat.

Habitat

 

Subtropical and tropical open bush country.
